Traditional Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), which has been around for several years, has always provided many benefits including centralized management, lower operating expenses, greater security, computing availability, and efficient application deployment. However, faster performance has always been conspicuously absent from the list. Today, V3’s optimized architecture makes it possible to add performance to that list.

Increased Performance

 V3 Systems provides the fastest virtual desktops in the industry. Using a superior approach to VDI architecture, V3 Systems has overcome problems of slow performance and poor user experience. We use PCIe-based solid state as our V3-certified storage, which provides faster access time for working data, and lower context switching, which minimizes unnecessary CPU usage when switching between applications. And by keeping working memory (OS and Temp files) closer to the CPU, we minimize access latency, while providing optimal use of local storage, and only leverage expensive shared storage (SANs and NAS) for persistent (user) data.

What does this mean for you? Faster performance means a better experience for the end users, as our V3 virtual desktops can match, and even exceed, the speed of high-performance physical desktops.
However, in addition to Performance, there are two other pieces required for successful VDI: Manageability and Scalability.

Improved Manageability

 Current virtual desktop management is performed by a combination of SAN, networking, and core infrastructure administrators, which is unnecessarily complicated and expensive because of the large number of people involved. More importantly, it leaves desktop administrators completely out of the equation. V3’s simplified VDI architecture returns desktop control back to the desktop administrator, where it belongs.

V3 Optimized Technologies

 The V3 Optimized TechnologiesTM are a set of innovative software features that manage as well as enable the V3 Appliance to deliver replacement grade virtual desktops. Utilizing this set of technologies and configuring the OS/hypervisor layers accordingly, system utilization is fully optimized yielding previously unobtainable performance and system efficiency.

The V3 Optimized Technology stack includes V3 Certified StorageTM, the V3 Local Storage Management (LSM) FrameworkTM, and the Local V3 ManagerTM. The V3 Certified Storage utilizes best-of-breed Solid State technology and configures it optimally using best practices for local storage of the V3 Appliances.

V3 certifies the storage and builds the communications framework with its V3 Local Storage Management Framework.The V3 LSM leverages best practices to bridge optimized two-way communications between the V3 Certified Storage and the managers located on the appliances, as well as across networks.

The V3 Manager monitors, manages, and optimizes the V3 Certified Storage for optimal configuration and reporting. Health and Performance are reported and delivered either to V3’s Local Management interface, or to VMware’s vCenterTM via a plugin.

Improved Scalability

 Because V3 Appliance density is so high, it results in lower sprawl, reduced energy consumption and cooling costs, more efficient machines and fewer of them due to server consolidation. This higher-density per desktop results in lower total cost of ownership as well.
